The Missions Committee here at First Congregational Church West Haven is a made up of a small group of dedicated people. Our Missions ministry provides monetary aide to local causes as well as global causes to those who are in need of funds.  Our budget is solely based on pledges for our budgeted items and the small brown envelopes for our monthly emphasis. Every month, for the entire month, there is a description of the monthly emphasis printed in the bulletin. We also have 5 special collections a year with envelopes designated for that purpose. These collections are Lent, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Christmas Eve Service. We have a bulletin board in Fellowship Hall filled with thank you notes from grateful organizations who we have helped throughout the year.

Pledged money is distributed quarterly to worthwhile causes like WHEAT, Alex’s Kitchen (who provides lunch on every Monday of the month for those in need of a good meal and fellowship held at our church), Westies Care (for the meals they provide on Tuesday morning and evening right here at our church), Our “adopted” child who receives a yearly donation plus a Birthday and Christmas gift) through Children’s Fund International. Also, we make a yearly donation to Silver Lake for their operating expenses, Church World Services (CWS) and Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM) which is sent through the UCC for use for both global and local disasters and also social justice.

Monthly Emphasis has donated to WHEAT, Heifer International, One Great Hour of Sharing, Silver Lake Scholarship Fund, Blankets Plus(+), Helping Hands/Pastor fund (emergency fund for those in need), FISH, Fisher House West Haven, Yale New Haven Hospital Toy Closet, Neighbors in Need, Connecticut Food Bank, Christmas Fund (a fund for retired Pastors in need), West Haven Community House, Beacon on the Hill Diaper Bank, Community Thanksgiving Dinner (also held right here at our church providing a wonderful Thanksgiving meal to those who can attend and also delivered to those who may not be able to get out of the house). Also, our Christmas Eve Service collection provides additional monies to Alex’s Kitchen.
