LGBTQ+ HOLIDAY FAMILY DINNER

For the first time, on December 16, 2017, we invited LGBTQ+ youth and young adults to a warm, festive, and fully accepting holiday dinner with us. As moms, dads, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins, we extended our holiday love to our community as if they were our own family. We know that many in the LGBTQ+ community are not accepted by their own families, so we wanted to create a safe space of love, acceptance, and celebration. We enjoyed dinner, dessert, live holiday music, and each other’s company! See more photos of the dinner here. The dinner was featured on the front page of the New Haven Register on December 10, 2017. There was no fee to attend thanks to donations of food, raffle items, decorations, musical talents, time, and money from many individuals and local businesses. Due to popular demand, we hope to repeat the dinner next year! If you’d like to support this hope, please donate here or mail a check with memo: LGBTQ Dinner, to “Parish Nurse, First Congregational Church of West Haven, 1 Church St, West Haven, CT 06516.”

CHRISTMAS BREAKFAST

Thank you to all who participated in FCCWH hosting a Christmas Breakfast this year. It was a huge success. We prepared and served scrambled eggs, sausage, fresh fruit and buttermilk pancakes with Maple syrup sourced in Simsbury Connecticut (thank you Dr. Jo Nol for donating that special treat!)  And thank you to the members of our congregation for purchasing and donating new gloves and hats for our mitten tree enabling everyone in attendance to go home with a Christmas gift!

The children were delighted when Santa make an appearance (thank you Debbie Fisk from Connecticut Mental Health Clinic in New Haven). Families enjoyed taking photos of their children sitting on Santa’s knee and opening gifts purchased especially for them! Thank you to those who donated these special gifts.  Their were many squeals of delight upon opening them! A good time was had by all!
